Once you have kids, it sometimes seems like several activities that you love are either unavailable to you, or made considerably harder, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. Take biking, for example. If you are dying to get back out on the trails but concerned about your little one, you have a variety of great options to bring them along..

Thule is a Swedish company known for a host of outdoor and transportation products including strollers and most notably in this instance, bike trailers. A bike trailer is a wheeled frame that hitches to the back of a bike and can be used to transport cargo or small children. Thule offers several makes of trailer to choose from, which we will detail below to help you pick which one is best for you.

Thule Chariot Lite Bike Trailer

It is perhaps fair to think of the Lite as a no-frills (or certainly fewer frills) model. A replacement for the Cougar model, it has fewer features than the Coaster, Cross, and Sport models, but has a compact fold achieved with the push of a button and as the name implies, is lighter than the others, making it easy to bring with you wherever you may go. The Thule Lite has removable padding in the seat, but no padding in the back and the seats do not recline. The Lite has ventilation vents, but lacks the removable side windows of the Sport, and the peekaboo window of both the Sport and the Cross.

The Thule Chariot Lite Bike Trailer has suspension but it is not adjustable. As such, it performs best on smooth sidewalks and paths, whether as a trailer or a stroller.

Thule Coaster XT Double Seat Bike Trailer

The Thule Coaster XT Bike Trailer is an excellent entry-level bike trailer/ stroller. It is well-suited to more urban areas and does quite well on sidewalks and public roads with light traffic. It also handles smooth paths comfortably and while it does have room for two kids, the seating is limited and thus it’s best for children aged 6 months to 3 years. The seating is raised, providing storage space underneath and the 3-point safety harness is simple to use, with padded shoulder straps.

Additional storage is found at the rear and in the form of a medium-sized pocket in the interior.

Other features of the Thule Coaster Bike Trailer include large, tinted side windows that are water- and windproof, a pull-out mesh door, and small sunshade. As with other models, when in trailer mode the stroller wheel stores on-board so that converting from trailer to stroller is quick and easy.

Thule Chariot Cross Bike Trailer

The Thule Chariot Cross Bike Trailer can be seen as something of a midpoint between the just-the-basics Lite and the full-featured Sport. A 5-height adjustable handlebar, adjustable suspension, removable seat padding, and built-in back padding makes the Cross comfortable for you and your little one, while its sturdy construction highlights Thule’s devotion to safety.

The Cross has plenty of storage space with two mesh pockets on either side of the seat and a large rear trunk that folds up and out of the way when not in use. Suitable for strolling, jogging, biking, and cross-country skiing (with ski kit, sold separately), the Cross is an excellent choice for all active parents.

Thule Chariot Sport Bike Trailer

The Thule Chariot Sport 2 Bike Trailer may just be the ultimate trailer, jogger, and stroller combo. Made for active parents, it sacrifices nothing in the way of comfort for your child, even offering a convenient, independent one-handed recline for each seat and premium padding for when paths are a little less smooth. 

A handlebar brake provides extra safety when jogging and side panels can be removed for additional ventilation on hot days, while a multi-position sunshade protects delicate skin. On-board storage allows you to bring everything you need to convert between trailer and stroller/ jogger. A rear light provides greater visibility to help keep your child safe.
